Yacht Insurance

REQUEST A QUOTE
We have a tailor-made yacht policy that offers quality cover at a competitive price. We can insure sailing yachts, motor yachts, catamarans, and sailing dinghies.

Our yacht insurance will provide cover within the UK and can also cover European waters (excluding war zones). Public Liability cover of up to £5m and Personal Accident cover are automatically included within the policy. As well as insuring the vessel itself, we are able to cover all the additional items that you may have, such as your tender, outboard, life raft, and personal effects.

All our policies cover up to £5m Third Party Liability. Third Party Liability cover is a requirement of most UK & European marinas and harbours.

In the event that you wish to use your yacht for racing, then this can also be covered, however, please note that the cost for this cover will be dependent on the value of your masts, spars, and rigging. We can also offer a specialist Builders Risk Policy to cover you whilst you are building your vessel.

Residential boats

When living afloat, it’s not only important to protect your vessel but your contents too. Rest easy knowing that under our policy you will be covered for accommodation costs, in the event your boat becomes uninhabitable. Get peace of mind and make sure your home and contents are properly protected on the water. For an additional premium, you can protect your contents against accidental loss or damage and theft both on-board and away from the vessel.

You can get cover for:

  • Replacement lock and keys
  • Professional removal of liveaboard contents
  • Short term accommodation costs
  • Property away from the vessel
  • Business equipment/student contents

Mooring

With regards to the storage of your vessel, most marinas are acceptable under the policy, as are most harbours, but some restrictions may apply. We do give permission for vessels to be moored on swinging moorings, however, these will be subject to our prior agreement and there may be restrictions on the dates such moorings can be used.

To insure your monohull, catamaran, trimaran, sloop, ketch, schooner, yawl, cutter, fin keel, wing keel, bilge keel, daggerboard, or centreboard, request a quote here:

Discounts are available for Passenger Boat Association members and RYA qualification holders.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the sum insured?

The sum insured is the maximum you’ll receive after a total loss of your vessel and it should reflect its current market value. The sum insured is usually based on the price you paid. If you think the current market value is higher than the price paid, we’ll ask to see an independent written valuation to support this.

Are friends and family covered to use my boat?

Yes, assuming they have your permission and you’re confident they can handle the boat safely.

Will you need a survey to insure my boat?

We usually ask for a survey for boats over 25 feet in length and over 35 years old, but some boats will require a survey before this. Once a survey has been approved, you won’t need another for at least five years.

What if I use my boat for racing?

Racing cover can be added to yacht policies for an additional premium – we’ll need to know the value of masts, spars, sails and rigging. We can arrange cover for racing all year, or just a one-off event.

What is an excess?

The excess is the amount that you have to contribute towards each claim, shown in your policy schedule. A discount is usually available if you choose to accept a higher excess on your policy.
